I grew up near Asheville, North Carolina and began to paint when I was seven or eight years old. My earliest pictures were of the Blue Ridge Mountains in which my home was nestled.

I draw inspiration from the subtle nuances of life - the shape of a piece of bark on a tree, the cacophony of voices in a crowd of people, words on the printed page, a musical note, a tiny flower in a field of grass.

Among those who have influenced my work: Alexander Calder, Paul Cezanne, Rimbaud, Barbara Peck, Giorgio de Chirico, Gao Xingjian, Jorge Luis Borges and Bela Bartok.

I have painted professionally since 1993.

I studied at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, Maryland College of Art and Design and The University of Hawaii..
